The Welfare of the City
Passage: Jeremiah 29:1–14
Should God's people care about problems and injustices in society? During Israel's exile in Babylon, God urged them to settle in for a long period in exile, and called them to "seek the welfare of the city." As citizens of heaven living in exile in this world, the Church of Jesus Christ is to be similarly concerned with the good of the people and institutions in the world where they live. This should challenge us to bring the heart of God and the grace of the gospel to bear on the injustices around us.
